Cinnamon Buns
A Perfect Morning

Coffee and newspaper in hand, I stepped out onto my patio and into that strangely orange-gold light that suffuses a clear fall morning. Each season seems to have it's own special brand of light: the harsh, white clarity of a frozen winter morning; the sweet, yellow dance of spring; the somehow round color of summer; and, so, to the particular hue of fall.
Traffic is light at 8:00 on a Sunday morning and most people sleep late, so the sounds of bird calls and songs are clear and add a pleasant punctuation to the Telemann sonatas playing faintly on the radio inside. The newspaper rustles reassuringly.
I return to the patio with fresh coffee and cinnamon bun. Sometimes just being is it's own reward.

What about bacon? There's no bacon here. Funny how we both did a breafast post. Do bacon tomorrow, please?
Doc,
I saw your post on the homemade shoulder bacon and it sure sounded good. So OK, I'll do bacon tomorrow morning.
Also, I'm working on a post from Baklava. I can't decide whether the book belongs in my study or kitchen.
Oh, this made me hungry! I love your description of a fall morning and those rolls baking - though I doubt I'd ever be up at 8 on a Sunday morning to make them! I love the Joy of Baking website, it's a fantastic resource.
Melissa,
I made the rolls the day before (I may be up at 8:00 on Sunday, but that doesn't make me capable of cooking then). So all I had to do was stick them in the oven.
I haven't used Joy of Baking before, most of my floury efforts tend toward bread.
I can't say enough about your photos. You can practically taste the icing on that bun. And the bread looks soft and moist. I'll vote your blog for best cinnamon bun photo of the year!
Mila,
Thanks![G]
Mm, Kevin, those look awfully good! I love fluffy and soft buns like that - will save the recipe for when my next craving comes on.
Those are beautiful! I love my morning coffee and sweet.
I recently made the quick cinnamon buns from Cooks Illustrated. They are biscuit-y, not yeast-y. I thought they were delicious.
Amy,
I like the yeast buns better, but these, although good, had a bit too much dairy in them.
