Spot-On: Summer at Last
One of the problems with farmers' markets is the hours. For instance, when I lived in Sacramento there were half a dozen markets each week, but unfortunately all but one took place during the workweek. Those hours make them difficult for people with jobs to shop at, and even if you can leave work to visit a market, you don't want to leave a bag of fresh produce sitting in a hot car all afternoon, and some things you want to refrigerate immediately.

Well said, Kevin! I enjoy your blog.
Trish (formerly from Nashville - how I envy your Knoxville area - so close to the Smokies - beautiful country.
Trish,
Thanks.
I often put a cooler with a frozen block of ice (in a 1/2 gallon milk bottle) in the car - can buy at noon and it's cool in the evening.
Dave,
I've done the same, but it required remembering -- not one of my strong suits.
Hey, ok, so I am thoroughly embarrassed at my blog, and that you took the time to read it in its current state, but conversely, I am flattered that you took the time to and even replied.
I found your blog randomly, and it made me happy in that total geek kind of way of finding something that interests you a lot.
anyhow, thank you.
Is that weird? thank you for paying attention?
ha.
Anyhow, I promise to make something good of it soon.
I also promise to try my hand at your recipes and take pictures and let you know how the armature hand does on your art.

Laz,
This blog started out pretty pitifully, it takes a while to get one into some kind of shape -- and I always check out comments from people I don't yet know.
Do let me know if you cook something from SG.
Darn, I was so excited when I started reading your article. I was a big fan of CSA vegetable boxes when I lived in Madison - it forced me to learn what to do with all kinds of things that I had never tried before. I'm sad that Knoxville doesn't have a program.
What farmers markets do you recommend?
I usually go to the one at the Laurel Church on Kingston Pk.
