Spot-On: More Insanity
from the U.S.D.A.

Most bureaucracies are famed for their lack of imagination, but the U.S. Department of Agriculture manages to consistently confound that dismal notion by finding new ways to control what we eat and who we buy it from. How the U.S.D.A. plans to regulate the farmers from whom I buy locally-raised meats is a good example of this ineptitude

Hi Kevin, What can we do to fight back? I also buy from Westwinds, Laurel Creek, and Solar Family Farm. What if we were buying to raise our own food? I couldn't even go to the cattle sale and buy a cow to fatten or milk for my own consumption without the chip? Well, they have gone too far this time. I think we can put a stop to all this nonsense. Let's raise our voices in protest! Ring the phones off the hook in the senator's and representative's offices. I mean bombard them with phone calls. It would have to be an organized thing to make it work. I mean so many calls their staff can't handle them. Whew! I got that off my chest, but I am still standing on the soapbox.

Thanks for all your good info.

As a consumer who is trying to make healthier and more environmentally friendly, I am utterly appalled at the level of sheer stupidity and more than that, the incestuous nature of our government working hand in hand with giant agro-business, among other multinationals, to the detriment of us, the very people they are meant to protect.

It's disheartening, so much so, that I intend to follow that link and hope everyone else I talk to will do the same.

Tess,
It's incredibly disheartening. So much so that I can't do more than two or three columns dealing with the politics in a row. Then I have to take a break and find the sunny spots.
